SMAC Moving Coil Actuators are used by some of the largest dairy manufacturers in the United States. SMAC actuators have several features that make them well-suited for applications in the dairy industry due to their ability to adjust to the viscosity of milks, yogurts, butters, and other liquids that can vary in thickness on a production line.
Most common SMAC applications for milk and milk-based drinks include (but are not limited to):
- Leak Test
- Ejection and Sorting
1) Dairy (Bottling Plant) doing rejection. Reason for using SMAC and replacing their current pneumatic solutions: air was too costly and inefficient. They sought out SMAC becausefor energy saving and controllability. Important Features for them included: Soft-Land, Programmable Force, and Data Feedback.
2) Company packaging milk alternatives such as Almond, Soy, Coconut and other Milk substitutes. They used pneumatics to try to meet rates of 70-140cpm. This often caused damage to the cartons, missed cartons, jammed eject stations, etc. Unit used: LCA50C-50-8. Reason for switch: SMAC offered an all-electric solution that would meet their rate of 70-140 per minute. Gave them the control of the force, the repeatability in response time that they needed to not miss or disturb the rest of the line feed of containers. Important SMAC Features: Soft-Land, Programmable Force, Cycle Rate, Cycle Life.
