Manual Machinist (Carlsbad, CA)

SMAC manufactures linear motor based actuators that are superior to older tech pneumatic and electric actuators.  SMAC Moving Coil Actuators feature programmable control of position, velocity, and force. With accelerations over 50G and cycle life well over 100M, SMAC is rapidly replacing air cylinders in packaging and automotive applications as well as replacing ball screw actuators in electronic and biotech applications.  Sales are growing at 30 - 40% annually and the Company is planning an IPO for 2018.

We are seeking a positive, self-starting manual machinist, experienced making prototype and production parts as well as tool building to extremely high tolerances.

Must be able to work unsupervised and produce at a high level.

Compensation:
Depends on experience: Between $18 and $20 per hour

Experience:
Minimum of 6 years experience with the following:

  • Manual mills (Bridgeport type) and lathes performing set up and machining of several different parts per day
  • Precision measuring equipment, gauges and hand tools to assure quality standards are maintained
  • Experience machining various metallic and non-metallic materials

Requirements: 

Prospective candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Understanding of blueprints (English and Metric) and technical schematics and drawings
  • Ability to meet inspection requirements according to customer specifications
  • Use of intermediate shop mathematics including Algebra and Geometry to determine and check angles, radii, hole locations, accessibility, missing dimensions, interrelated dimensions, etc.
  • Knowledge of tooling cutter speeds and feed rates
  • Ability to read and write in English and comprehend English instructions
  • Must have your own tools
  • Extremely organized

Maintenance Technician (Carlsbad, CA)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repair of production equipment and facilities equipment due to occasional breakdowns. These primarily include Extrusion machines and CNC lathes and mills, but also includes various other types of electrical/mechanical equipment
  • Troubleshooting of electrical/mechanical equipment malfunctions
  • Work with Equipment Manufacturers’ technical support in troubleshooting of various electrical and mechanical equipment malfunctions to accomplish repairs as needed
  • Also schedule and perform Preventative/Predictive Maintenance
  • Installs new/relocated equipment and required utilities (air, water, electric)
  • Completes all paperwork requirements, work requests, work orders, purchase requisitions
  • Performs cleanup of equipment, production and maintenance areas after completion of repairs
  • Handles calibration of machine components or instruments
  • Commits to continual improvement and customer satisfaction

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Promotes Teamwork and cooperative effort
  • Maintains a clean, safe and unobstructed work area; practices good safety habits; and utilizes appropriate safety equipment
  • Proper care and maintaining of company issued tools and equipment

Experience—must have a minimum of 3 years working exp. in the following:

CNC Operator/Deburrer (Carlsbad, CA)

Full time openings for 1st and 2nd shift CNC Operator/Deburrer.  Previous experience for this position not required.  Training provided. This position reports to CNC Shop Manager

Job Duties:

  • Cut raw material to be machined
  • Load raw metal stock into machine
  • Unload machined parts
  • Deburr machined parts
  • Inspect machined parts

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Working near moving mechanical parts
  • Standing/Walking for 6 to 8 hours
  • Frequent Team-Lifting of 60 pounds or more

  • Wearing eye, ear, hands and face protection for 6 hours or more at a time

Quality Inspector (Carlsbad, CA)

This position reports to Area QC Leader and/or Quality Manager

Function:

Responsible for performing overall quality inspector tasks per QMS procedures and forms Works directly with Quality Control lead and/or Manager, production leads and Engineering
Inspection of purchased products and/or SMAC machined parts

Primary responsibility is to confirm machined parts meet specifications called out on applicable drawings throughout the internal and external bead blast and plating process. This needs to be performed with precision and in a timely manner including generating applicable inspection reports

Compensation:

This is a Full Time, Second Shift position, paying $12.50 per hour

Second Shift Hours: 2:45pm to 11:15pm

Education

High School Diploma

Required Experience

  • Quality Control: 2 years
  • Inspection: 2 years, including dimension, surface, visual and process inspections
  • Working knowledge of geometry, algebra and trigonometry
  • Experience working in a machine shop or similar environment

    • Communicate with Suppliers to schedule pick up/delivery
    • Communicate urgent delivery lead times with Suppliers
  • Placing pins in housings, test pin placement on Coordinate Test Machine
    • Need to make sure to place pins to five housings and then test them avoiding placing pins for more than one continuous hour at a time
  • Program EOB’s
    • Low complexity level function, requires attention to detail/ability to following instructions
  • Inspect production parts tolerance; including fist article, in process and finished lots
  • Perform Inspections to confirm parts meet specifications, and quality documentation requirements
  • Assist with calibration, internal audits, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and other production and administrative tasks
  • Inspect and maintain measurement equipment and other inspection/production tools
  • Read, understand and translate drawings, as needed, keeping informed of modifications that affect inspection, calibration, or production
  • As applicable, responsible for receiving inspection process
  • Responsible for non-conforming material and rework reports
  • Responsible for the QC NCM area and inventory
